dc.description.abstractMagnetic measurements were made on the chemically ordered intermetallic compounds R₂Au (R=Gd,Tb,Dy,Ho,Er, and Tm), each of which had the orthorhombic Co₂Si crystal structure. Gd₂Au and Tb₂Au ordered ferromagnetically while the other four compounds showed no signs oh ordering in the temperature range 70°K to 300°K. It was found that the high-temperature susceptibility for each specimen satisfied an equation which contained both Curie-Weiss and temperature-independent terms. Paramagnetic Curie temperatures were positive for all specimens except Tm₂Au, and these values were in descending order with ascending atomic number. Effective magnetic moments agreed very well with those of the corresponding rare earths in the triply ionized state.en_US
