A philosophic consideration and justification of the unique functions of the democratic educational leader

The purpose of this paper is twofold. It is an attempt to present the unique characteristics of leadership found in the democratic educational leader within a democratic society. It is further a search for research evidence and professional opinion in support of the function of democratic leadership as contrasted to the authoritarian leadership function. The source material for the paper is largely the professional literature within the areas of Education and Psychology regarding the subject area. file procedure of study is as follows: 1) a search through the source material in the areas of Education and Psychology for pertinent research findings and professional opinions, and 2) a philosophic interpretation of the aforementioned information on the basis of relevance to the topic area. The natural bias of the author is in the direction of: 1) the recognition of the unique functions of the democratic educational leader, and 2) the justification of the function of the democratic educational leader within a democratic society.
