The title of this capstone project was Systematically Developing Assessments Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards for Middle School Students. Science is a subject in which many United States students struggle (Martin, Mullis, Foy, & Stanco, 2012). New assessments for teacher use and aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards are needed because these content standards are significantly different and more rigorous than current K-12 science standards (Pellegrino, Wilson, Koenig, & Beatty, 2014; Quinn, Schweingruber, & Keller, 2012). This capstone project involved constructing a science assessment that focused on a wide variety of science concepts from the life, physical, Earth, and space sciences.
