This paper examines how Napoleon Bonaparte implemented a nationalized secular educational plan in post-Revolutlonary and post-Dlrectory France. His goal was to create economic and political stability for the continued prosperity of the Regime. In addition to the question of implementation, the consequences on France today, as well as successes/fai1ures in terms of the original intentions of the plan are discussed. An historical background of French education in the century leading up to the Regime is given. Among the conclusions is the idea that though the Napoleonic system of education ultimately failed to prolong the Regime, evidence of this plan remain in France today, and in other countries as well.
