Copyright, Access, and Withdrawal Information

Huskie Commons has been established as a permanent archive and strives to comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). In exceptional cases, authors, editors, or community liaisons may request that works be removed from the archive. Reasons for withdrawal of content could be factual inaccuracy, copyright infringement, or plagiarism. Ordinarily, content will not be removed simply because the author has produced a revised version of a work. No materials will be removed without the authors' knowledge. The NIU Libraries’ Digital Collections Steering Committee reserves the right to remove items from the repository if notified by a third party of potential copyright infringement. In such cases, authors and communities will be notified. All deaccession decisions must comply with legal and ethical standards and reflect the University’s role as a trustee of the materials in its collections for the benefit of the campus community, researchers, and the public. Please note that all materials created in affiliation with Northern Illinois University after December 3, 2014 are allowed to be included in Huskie Commons in at least post-print quality. All peer reviewed materials produced after December 3, 2014 are required to be deposited in post-print or better. See NIU’s Open Access Policy in NIU’s Academic Policies and Procedures Manual for more information.
