Mossbauer study of Iron(II) flouride (FeF₂)

A powdered sample of FeF₂ has been investigated by Fe ⁵⁷Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy in transmission and back-scattering geometry. The analysis of the spectra at room temperature obtained from both techniques revealed that the Mossbauer parameters remain identical. An impurity phase of γ-FeOOH was detected in the room temperature transmission geometry experiment. This indicates that impurity phase is only present in the bulk and not on the surface of the sample. Transmission experiment at 47.5 K shows an eight line spectrum and the magnitude of the magnetic field were calculated to be 325 kG.
