Professional success is an admirable goal, particularly for university students looking beyond graduation. However, such success takes dedication, perseverance, and the ability to seek opportunities for growth. In order to foster such qualities in their students, the NIU School of Theatre and Dance requires that students complete a professional internship while earning their degrees. Internships are exceedingly beneficial for any young professionals looking to gain experience, make connections, and learn about their industry. This is a valuable opportunity, particularly for students looking to put their best foot forward following graduation. To this end, internships are necessary for university students. However, students are often at a loss as to what internship to pursue where, when, and what its overall benefits may be. This is not easy information to come by, and often intimidates students into an internship that does not match their potential. “The Other Side of the Stage” Honors Capstone portfolio serves to answer these questions and meet this issue head-on. The goal of the project is to create an accessible source of information for students uncertain about internships in the theatre industry. My goal is to help dispel this uncertainty and give future SoTD a means of exploring different disciplines and opportunities in the theatre industry.en_US
