        Abstract
In this study, the cell lines HeLa, 3T3-Swiss albino, CHO-Kl, and ARPE-19 were cultured and co-incubated with variable concentrations of S-phosphorylated thiols and Nacetylcysteine. Using MTT assays, the cultures were analyzed to determine the viability and proliferation of the cultured cell lines. Additionally, the dose measurement of the ¹³⁷Cs Gamma Source used in this experiment was calculated in order to prepare for future studies. Based on the data from this experiment, further testing can be conducted to determine the effect that the cell lines co-incubated with s-phosporylated thiols has compared to the control when exposed to ultraviolet and gamma radiation. These tests give insight in the effectiveness that such compounds have as radioprotectors and antioxidants. This study included understanding and applying basic cell culturing techniques to culture the four different cell lines used in this experiment.
