Electronic spreadsheet software has increased the acceptance of the microcomputer in the business-world. Unlike software released prior to the spreadsheet revolution, the software was primarily written as programming aids for the computer experts. Spreadsheet software developers anticipated the needs of the uneducated users and quickly filled this gap. The advantages of using an electronic spreadsheet in accounting applications are threefold. First and foremost, the spreadsheet reduces the frequency of arithmetic errors since the software can be used for repetitive calculations. Second, the time to perform routine operations is also dramatically reduced. Third, the spreadsheet format makes it easier to find information such as trends within the data. Programmers who wish to take advantage of these capabilities can create templates for the specific functions desired by the user. Two template applications are included with this project.
