This paper’s objective was to bring awareness as well as understanding to same-sex parents. The challenges as well as strengths and resilience factors of same-sex parents were examined through a review of the existing literature on the topic. The main points of the paper included the diversity of gay and lesbian families, common misconceptions about them, the legal challenges they face, as well as other obstacles they may encounter. The way these families cope with their problems as well as considerations for therapists working with them were also discussed. The main conclusion of the paper is that there are no significant differences in the well-being of children raised by same-sex parents as compared to those raised by heterosexual parents. It seems like parenting skills, rather than sexual orientation, are most important when deciding who is a fit parent.en_US
