Considerable research has been done in the areas of coastal dispersion and of complex terrain dispersion, but until recently, little research has been done on coastal complex terrain dispersion. Two studies have been completed on coastal complex terrain dispersion and both have been done at the same time of the year. Dispersion in coastal complex terrain is examined over a year time period at the same location as one of the special studies to see when the most dispersive time occurs. Gaussian models often over estimate pollutant concentrations at the surface in complex terrain. A new model (CTDM) is modified in order to take into account the wide plumes generated in the stagnation zone in front of the terrain feature. This modified model is used to calculate an annual concentration in the coastal complex terrain area. Recommendations are provided on the calculation of annual pollutant concentrations in coastal complex terrain.
