The purpose of this study was to determine how Illinois home economics teachers were using computers in their classroom and what barriers these teachers perceived to computer use in their classroom. A survey of Illinois home economics teachers revealed that only 29% were using computers in their classes. However, 71% of those not currently using computers anticipated doing so in the near or immediate future. The most common perceived barrier to computer use was support from administration. Other barriers were lack of interest, software selection, and quality of home economics software. A relationship was found between the probability of computer integration and a teacher's age, years of teaching, and date of the last professional development course taken.
