QUADRABONIA is a one movement work scored for f our groups of three trombones, each group being in a different corner of a performance space. The tonal material for QUADRABONIA originates from a twelve-tone row and from chromatic lines whose p itch sequences are governed by the Fibbonacci series. This series can also be found in the length of the notes and of certain fugato phrases in the central section of the piece. In contrast to the Fibbonacci basis menti oned above, several sections of the piece are aleatoric. Timbral aspects of the trombone, such as glissandi and muting, are also featured throughout. QUADRABONIA provides an opportunity for the performers to be involved with unusual musical textures and spatial relationships. It is hoped that this piece will be a valuable and unique addition to the trombone choir literature.
