Active noise control using an FPGA

This thesis developed a cost effective electronic noise reduction system that is as operationally effective as current DSP methods. This was accomplished by using a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). One major problem with using FPGAs is that they are currently limited by the number of gates one can use. This requires many complex designs to be completely re-analyzed with space optimization in mind. Time domain analysis of signals must be used because frequency domain analysis using the FPGA is too math intensive. Because multiplication is also very space consuming, a method that requires less space was used. The overall system is an adaptation of the LMS algorithm.
