Analysis of the pulsed high-power laser cutting process by using finite element method
A two-dimensional transient model for pulsed high-power laser cutting process is developed. The nondimensional forms of governing equation and the boundary conditions are derived, and the numerical solutions are obtained by a finite element method. Results obtained by this finite element model are compared with other data. The parameters of the pulsed laser cutting process are identified for the performance of the cutting process. The performance of the cutting process is further studied to determine the groove size and shape resulting from the pulsed laser beam. The results obtained by this finite element model are compared with those from continuous laser cutting process. The effects of the laser power and the duration of the pulsed laser beam are also discussed.
